(Vocus) June 11, 2008

The Home Safety Council announced OSRAM SYLVANIA as a winner of the organization’s 2008 Commendation Award for Product Innovation for its Power Failure Light. Product manufacturers from a variety of industries including home improvement and fire safety were among the five organizations that received the award in acknowledgment of their exceptional contributions to improving consumer home safety.

According to the Home Safety Council-commissioned study, The State of Home Safety in America™, home injuries cause an average of nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits each year. The Home Safety Council’s Commendation Award for Product Innovation was established in 2004 to recognize manufacturers for their contributions to reducing home injury risks by developing innovative products that aim to protect consumers from home injury.

“Manufacturers continue to be vital partners in the Home Safety Council’s constant effort to reduce the toll of home injuries in America,” said Home Safety Council President Meri-K Appy. “SYLVANIA represents a wide range of home safety product innovations and we commend the company’s strong commitment to the health and safety of consumers.”

About the Power Failure Light

The Power Failure light features three functions in one. It offers bright energy efficient LED light during power failures and automatically comes on when it senses a loss of power. It also functions as a night light with an automatic sensor and light indicator. For mobile usage, the Power Failure Light turns into a bright LED flashlight. The Power Failure Light never needs a bulb replacement, as it has built in rechargeable batteries. Whether in your kitchen, the bedroom, garage or hallway, the Power Failure Light is always charging while plugged in so you will never be left in the dark.

“We are honored to receive the Home Safety Council’s Commendation Award recognizing the innovation of the Power Failure Light as well as our corporate commitment to ensuring the health, safety and satisfaction of our customers,” said Constance Pineault, product marketing manager, OSRAM SYLVANIA. “Nothing brings more pride to our organization than knowing that the products we develop can help protect consumers with their safety features.”

Award Winning Houston Remodeler William Shaw Offers Home Renovation Tips for Women

Award Winning Houston Remodeler William Shaw Offers Home Renovation Tips for Women

Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 03, 2011

If you’re thinking of home renovations or a bathroom or kitchen-remodeling project, William Shaw & Associates realize many can be wary of the pratfalls. Using his understanding and knowledge of the remodeling industry, Bill Shaw, a two-time award winning Remodeler of the Year, wants to educate women about the problems one may encounter with home remodeling. Here’s a list of remodeling and renovation tips:

Make sure your contractor does not underestimate the project.. If a contractor does not have the expertise of submitting a proper bid, costs may rise. If this happens the contractor may charge more or cut corners.

-Avoid contractors who stretch themselves too thin. Some contractors may have too many projects on their plate and not enough workers to follow through. This can lead to long delays and sometimes it leads to shoddy work.

-Check on a contractor’s experience. Just because someone lists kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling on his business card and calls himself a contractor doesn’t mean it’s true. Many don’t have the experience and know how to successfully complete a job, on time and to your liking. Do your homework and check references and see examples.

-Avoid “wheelers and dealers.” Many contractors can take your money, but don’t have enough financial responsibility to complete the job. And if they do, they may not be here tomorrow to resolve any future problems with their work.

-Do not accept one time only offers. The bid a contractor offers you should not be a one-time only low price offer. A job proposal should have a reasonable time limit for you to accept the offer.

Bill Shaw and company vice president Shawn Vacek make their clients feel comfortable, ensuring them that the job they sign on for will be completed on schedule and with satisfaction. Bill Shaw has more than a quarter of a century in the Houston remodeling business and has built the company on a foundation of professional courteous service, a commitment to quality and an ethical code of understanding and knowledge.

William Shaw & Associates even offer their clients new 3-D imaging technology that allows one to see a computer rendering of the project before the first hammer strikes. William Shaw & Associates can guide even the most skeptical client through the entire remodeling process with expertise, consideration and comfort.

William Shaw & Associates is the Texas Association of Builders- Star Awards 2007 & 2009 Remodeler of the Year. Bill Shaw, a retired United States Naval Officer and long time Houstonian launched the company in 1984 as “Hire-My-Handyman.” Today, William Shaw & Associates specializes in home remodeling, build on your lot, barrier-free modifications, green building and design-build. Leite’s Culinaria Wins 2005 World Food Media Award for Best Food and/or Drink Web Site

Leite’s Culinaria Wins 2005 World Food Media Award for Best Food and/or Drink Web Site

New York, NY, (PRWEB) November 13, 2005

In a ceremony on Oct. 29th, Leite’s Culinaria beat out an esteemed list of competitors, including BBC Food (UK), KQED’s Jacques Pepin: Fast Food My Way (USA), Cuisine (New Zealand), and Gastronomic Meditations (USA), to win the 2005 World Food Media Award for Best Food and/or Drink Web Site. The award, a golden ladle, was one of 29 given to food professional worldwide in 25 categories.

The food and drink equivalent of the movie Oscars, the World Food Media Awards presented by Wolf Blass wines celebrated the work of recipients from around the world, with gold Ladles going to UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, and Canada. A highlight of the biennial Tasting Australia festival, the Awards presentation took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Adelaide.

Publisher and editor-in-chief David Leite was surprised by win. “When you consider we were up against some of the giants in the industry with huge budgets,” he says, “it’s astonishing that we won. It was quite a coup for us.”

Food editor Linda Avery surmises as to why Leite’s Culinaria picked up the top prize in the Web-site category: “We’re the only food site that I know of that includes feature-length articles and columns; food history pieces; resources; and recipes from best-selling cookbooks, the James Beard House, and Portugal, which is from where David’s family hails. We also have a pool of 120 recipe testers throughout the world who test many of the dishes we post. So the site has something for everything.”

While the honor was celebrated by the editors and staff of the site, Leite decided to turn the win into an opportunity for other writers by creating the Leite’s Culinaria Scholarship for Narrative Food Writing. The $ 1,000 award toward registration and lodging for the 2006 Symposium for Professional Food Writers at The Greenbrier, in White Sulphur Springs, WV, will be awarded to a novice food writer (writing for fewer than five years) whose work is narrative in nature. The goal of the scholarship is to promote literary writing (essays, food novels or narrative nonfiction) that has a strong, expressive voice and a unique perspective on the world of food.

“I wanted to give back,” says Leite. “The World Food Media Award shined a spotlight on us, and we wanted to share that with up-and-coming writers so they can get exposure, too.”

King of Prussia, PA (PRWEB) August 29, 2003

DRD Corporation has announced that its new Load Lock FASTener wins the highly coveted Retailers Choice Award for Innovation at The National Hardware Show in Chicago. This award is given to only 30 products out of tens of thousands of products appearing at the international show.

Through recent improvements to the innovative design, it has become the strongest plastic fastener design for one-inch strap. As the only self-locking fastener without a spring and the only strap fastener with dual-gripping surfaces, the Load Lock® is able to achieve significantly higher strengths than competing plastic buckles, including commonly found side-release and cam style buckles.

The Load Lock is truly unique in its unparalleled versatility and strength, making it an excellent alternative to bungee and metal buckle products for a wide range of applications. It is available in a growing number of premium products ranging from marine and automotive products to pet and household products.
